Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa

History

The establishment of a college/university started with a dream and determination of the leadership of the then Municipality and now City of Muntinlupa.

In spite of the tremendous financial odds, the leaders prevailed to find strength, inspired by the Divine Providence, in the pursuit of embarking into a difficult task of establishing an institution of higher learning.

On May 29, 1991, the Municipal Council of Muntinlupa passed the Resolution No. 91-191 and Resolution No. 91-192 officially creating a government-run college, which gave rise to the MPC (Muntinlupa Polytechnic College). Housed in one of the high school building (Pedro E. Diaz High School) in Alabang, Muntinlupa, the operation of the college started with 309 students.

The courses offered were: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science in Criminology and the two-year courses in Computer Science, Secretarial Science and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology.

With the ever-increasing number of enrollees, MPC moved to another temporary location at the Second Floor of the Contessa Building, Poblacion, Muntinlupa City, where all offices and classrooms were air-conditioned. It was at this time that MPC established linkages with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED-NCR) for the development of quality education.

Emboldened by the fast-growing student population and with the continuing challenge of Muntinlupa, already a City in 1995, the need expansion for bigger campus and for better facilities, the pursuit of a permanent site has to be reckoned with by the leadership of the City Government.

Finally, on March 1998, MPC realized its long cherished dream of moving from the compact Contessa Building to its own permanent two-storey building, which was erected at the Muntinlupa National High School Compound within the NBP Reservation Area.

MPC as a city-supported institution is committed to the pursuit of excellence in the field of education. In School-Year 2001-2002, the construction of the Academic Building was completed with the Third and Fourth Floors that houses the Library, Auditorium and additional classrooms.

With the progress and growth of the College, the MPC went through another greater challenge when it was converted into a local university in March 2003 by virtue of City Ordinance No. 03-089, which gave rise to the PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG MUNTINLUPA.
